inspired by 'Some Prefer Nettles' by Junichiro Tanizaki 'Some Prefer Nettles' by Junichiro Tanizaki was serialized in the Osaka Mainichi Shimbun and Tokyo Nichi Nichi Shimbun from November 1928 (Showa 3). In the novel, Misako, one of the main characters, makes a toast sandwich when she decides to leave her husband and children. We have arranged this toast sandwich, which was made by finely chopping pickled cucumbers cut in half lengthwise and placing them in bread with sausage, in the BUNDAN style. inspired by 'Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World' by Haruki Murakami *This will take approximately 10-15 minutes. Born in June 1985 (Showa 60) as a special work of pure literature written for Shinchosha, Haruki Murakami's 'Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World'. We have recreated the protagonist's last supper (breakfast) in 'Hard-Boiled Wonderland'. It includes Strasbourg sausages simmered in tomato sauce, and the French bread is from the renowned boulangerie 'Signifiant Signifié' in Sangenjaya. inspired by 'Diary of a Vagabond' by Fumiko Hayashi 'Diary of a Vagabond', Fumiko Hayashi's autobiographical novel chronicling her wandering life based on her diary. Like the work, which is also the basis for stage plays and films, the beef rice bowl eaten by the protagonist in the story has been loved by many. The work mentions that while a large sum of one million yen was a significant amount, a beef rice bowl cost only ten sen, suggesting it was a familiar food for the wandering protagonist and common people. inspired by 'Dessert' by Yoko Mori Yoko Mori built a villa on Yoron Island, one of the remote islands around Kagoshima and Okinawa, in 1988 (Showa 63). When she first moved in, she had no ingredients and used a can of oil-packed sardines she happened to have, which led to the creation of this donburi. Novels such as 'Island,' set on Yoron Island, were written at this villa. 'Here, Noriko, eat this while it's hot.' Shunsuke mixed the contents of the bowl with his chopsticks a few times and scooped it into his mouth. Noriko followed suit, not to be outdone. 'It's delicious!' she exclaimed. 'It's great!' inspired by 'Dishes I made' by Chiyo Uno Chiyo Uno, known not only as a novelist but also for her diverse talents as a designer and editor, is also famous for her romantic affairs with many famous artists. Among them, Seiji Togo was fond of curry, and Uno honed her curry-making skills during her time with him. In her book 'My Home-Cooked Dishes,' she recommends this 'innovative curry' as being easy to eat and digest. inspired by 'Kare 2nd' by Ryunosuke Akutagawa 'Café Paulista', considered the birthplace of coffee culture in Japan, was frequented by many literary figures, including Ryunosuke Akutagawa, Kotaro Takamura, Kan Kikuchi, Akiko Yosano, and Kenji Miyazawa. The café, which opened in Ginza in 1913 (Taisho 2), served Brazilian coffee, and it is said that the term 'Gin-bura' (strolling in Ginza) originated from the phrase 'Let's go to Ginza to drink Brazilian coffee.' BUNDAN recreates what might have been served at the time. We named this coffee, characterized by its beer-like acidity and nutty sweetness, 'AKUTAGAWA'.

inspired by 'A Book for the Sky' by Shuji Terayama Ethiopian Mocha coffee, believed to be the first coffee ever drunk in the world and also the first coffee drunk by Japanese people. Citing the fruity aroma and clean finish of Mocha coffee, Shuji Terayama composed the following poem, taking inspiration from a tanka by Ishikawa Takuboku: 'I go to hear the dialect of my hometown, which has lost its accent, amidst the crowds at the station.' inspired by 'Vita Sexualis' by Ougai Mori It reminds me of a small coffee shop on the west side of Unter den Linden in Berlin. It was Café Krebs. It was a place where Japanese students gathered, and they called it 'Kaniya Kaniya' (Crab shop, Crab shop). (from Ougai Mori's 'Vita Sexualis') In the 18th century, the Netherlands brought coffee produced in Java to Europe at low prices, achieving great success. Until the mid-19th century, European coffee was synonymous with Javanese coffee. After the Meiji Restoration, students who studied in Europe, including Ougai Mori, would have enjoyed its unique, robust flavor reminiscent of spices while experiencing Western culture. Later, Javanese coffee was succeeded by Mandheling coffee, cultivated on the island of Sumatra, and continues to this day.

inspired by 'Houka' by Atsushi Nakajima Mocha, with its bright acidity and fruity flavor, and Java, with its rich body and depth – these two completely different beans are blended to create Mocha Java, the world's oldest blend. BUNDAN has named this blend 'ATSUSHI', likening its complex and transparently balanced flavor to the solitary literary figure Atsushi Nakajima, who masterfully alternated between a lighthearted narrative style and a dignified classical Chinese prose style. inspired by 'An Introduction to the Philosophy of Coffee' by Torahiko Terada (Hot only) Torahiko Terada, who studied abroad at Berlin University at the age of 30 (1909) and was a devoted coffee enthusiast ever since. However, his encounter with coffee seems to date back to his childhood. He recalls that the first milk he drank tasted like unpleasant 'medicine'. To make it more palatable, the doctor didn't forget to add a small amount of coffee. A tiny pinch of ground coffee was placed in a small muslin bag and steeped in hot milk, then squeezed out like a Chinese herbal cold remedy. In any case, the aroma of this coffee, which he tasted for the first time, completely captivated the heart of the country-raised boy. To his childish mind, which yearned for all things exotic, this Western fragrance from the South Seas seemed like a waft of breeze from an unknown paradise. In his story 'Glacier-Rat Fur Skin,' which depicts people on a Bering expedition train, there is a scene where tea is served to the passengers. inspired by 'And Then' by Soseki Natsume 'And Then' by Soseki Natsume was serialized from June to October 1909 (Meiji 42) in the Tokyo Asahi Shimbun and Osaka Asahi Shimbun. It tells the story of Daisuke, the protagonist born into a wealthy family who lives off his parents' money without a steady job, and his decision to elope with Michiyo, the wife of his friend Tsunejiro. Partway through the story, Daisuke offers his nephew Seitaro some chocolate when he visits his home. 'Seitaro, would you like some chocolate?' 'Yes.' This menu item is inspired by the warm chocolate that might have been drunk during the era in which the story is set. Please try it.

inspired by 'Ango Sakaguchi Complete Works 02' by Ango Sakaguchi 'Koshi no Tsuyu' is a sake brand that was revived by Niigata Daiichi Shuzo in the Heisei era, originally brewed by Koshi no Tsuyu Brewery in Matsunoyama Town (now Tokamachi City), Niigata Prefecture, where Ango's sister married. It seems to have been frequently drunk by Ango's acquaintances. In 'Sake of Niigata' from 'Ango Sakaguchi Complete Works 02,' it is written that 'Mr. Shiro Ozaki, fearing his monthly alcohol expenses, consulted me. My brother-in-law, Masao Murayama of Benimura, introduced him to the brewer of 'Koshi no Tsuyu,' who had a policy of selling it to acquaintances for ten yen per 'to' (approx. 18L). This was a great success, and those who had a drink at Mr. Ozaki's place would write letters of introduction, one after another.'

inspired by 'Meal Sceneries' by Shotaro Ikenami Old Parr bottles stand diagonally without falling over. In the Showa era, they were a status symbol, and were loved by Japanese people, especially politicians and literary figures of the Showa era, for their auspicious meaning of 'rising above' and 'never falling.' Novelist Shotaro Ikenami, author of works such as 'Sakuran,' 'Onihei Hankacho,' and 'Sanada Taiheiki,' seemed to be very fond of whiskey, writing in 'Meal Sceneries,' 'There are several times a year when I drink whiskey heartily and write while doing so.'
