Taco rice was invented in 1984 by Matsuzo Gibo, the founder of King Tacos at Parlor Senri. Parlor Senri opened near a US military base in Kin Town, Okinawa. As many Americans were customers, taco rice was conceived as a "cheap and filling menu item."
