The History of Ciragan Palace The palace, built by the Ottoman Sultan Abdulaziz, was designed by architect Nigoğayos Balyan and built by his sons Sarkis and Hagop Balyan between 1863 and 1867. It was built during a period when Ottoman sultans were having their own palaces built rather than using those of their ancestors. The Çırağan Palace is the last example of this.
