A history of ice cream. Since Marco Polo, Italy has introduced the world to the fruity flavor of ice cream. Catherine de Medici, the Florentine, introduced them to the French court in 1533. And in 1686, an Italian named Francesco Procopio dei Coltelli opened a café in Paris, the famous Procope, where he offered over 24 flavors of water ices. In the time of Louis XIV, the Sun King could enjoy ice creams in the summer. Napoleon himself succumbed to this dish fit for princes.
