Tsukishima Monja Moheji Hanare

Tsukishima Monja Moheji Monjayaki originated in Asakusa during the Edo period. In Hokusai's "Hokusai Manga" (illustration on the lower left), a "moji-yaki" shop is depicted, where wheat flour mixed with water was poured onto a griddle to draw characters and pictures for children to eat. Through the Meiji era, 'moji-yaki' evolved into 'monji-yaki' and then to the current name 'monjayaki'. During the Taisho era, ingredients like cabbage, tempura scraps, dried shrimp, red ginger, and green onions were added. Currently, there are about 60 monjayaki restaurants in Asakusa and 100 in Tsukishima. Every morning, we procure fresh seafood from our parent company, a fish wholesaler at Toyosu Market. Our dashi is made by simmering chicken bones, seafood, and aromatic vegetables.
